Aizawl, March 25: A total of 36,929 youths seeking employment have registered under Labour, Employment and Industrial Training Department, Lalrinmawia Ralte, Minister for under Labour, Employment and Industrial Training Department informed the Mizoram Legislative Assembly.
Replying to a question from Er. Lalrinawma of opposition the Mizo National Front (MNF), Lalrinmawia Ralte said the number of unemployed youths in the whole of Mizoram registered in various employment exchanges under labour department as on 16 March, 2016 was 36,929.
He said that about 19,528 youths including 8,536 female seeking employment have registered in greater Aizawl which covered Serchhip, Kolasib, Mamit and Aizawl districts. The total number of unemployed youths registered in Champhai district as on 16 March was 5,362 of which 2,141 were female. While in Lunglei district 4,072 youths including 2,244 female have been registered for employment, in Saiha 7,967 youths including 2,838 female seeking employment have been registered till date.
The minister added that there is no report of recruitment made without processing through various district employment exchanges in the state. However, labour officials earlier one month before the assembly told this paper that some departments have directly recruited staff bypassing employment exchange.
The officials alleged that employment made directly by some department were not intimated to labour department and employment exchange office and that feedback was very poor.
