66,098 liquor cards issued since MLPC Act

Aizawl, March 29: As many as 66,098 people were issued liquor card since the Mizoram Liquor Prohibition & Control (MLPC) Act, 2014 came into effect on January 15 last year, Excise and Narcotics Minister R. Lalzirliana said today.

Replying to unstarred question from Lalruatkima of the Mizo National Front (MNF), Lalzirliana said the total revenue received from liquor card was over Rs 3.30 crore and the total import of various branded liquors since the enforcement of the MLPC Act were- IMFL (i.e Rum, Whisky and Vodca)- 5,87,866 cases, Beer-2,53,230 cases and Wine-3020 cases. However, the total expenses incurred in liquor import could not be ascertained as it completely the matter of private business and company, he added.

Lalzirliana also said that there are three bonded warehouses and 56 vendors in the state as on 3 February, 2016.

He added that Rs 10,000 is charged on per Mono carton box and the total revenue received from such charge has accumulated to Rs 6,40,000.
