Aizawl, April 1: The Mizoram Government as of now is working on five hydel projects in different parts of the state, chief minister Lal Thanhawla who also hold the portfolio of power & electricity informed the house in a reply to a question from Lalthanliana of Mizoram People Conference on Thursday.
Chief minister said that measures are underway to upgrade Serlui-B hydel project on river Serlui in Mizoram-Assam border Kolasib district to generate 12 mega watt power.
According to him the five hydel projects which are currently under construction are-Tlawva HEP, Kawlbem HEP, Tuiching MHP, Tuiriza MHP and Tuirial HEP.
The Serlui-B hydel project has, till January this year, generated 141.8945 million unit of power which is estimated at Rs 50.59 crore worth since the power machine became functional in May 2010, he said.
He added that the Serlui-B hydel project at present generates 8 MW and three power units with the capacity of generating 4 MW each have been installed in the project sites which are made working between 4 pm and 11 pm, and from 6 am to 10 am.
In another reply to a question from Dr. K. Beichhuah of the Mizo National Front (MNF), the chief minister and power & electricity minister also informed the house that techno economic clearance has been obtained for the proposed Kolodyne-II hydro electric project , while forest clearance is under process.
He said that the NTPC Ltd. with which the state government singed MoS to construct the project was directed by Ministry of Environment & Forest to thoroughly study on forest clearance. However, there were no efforts at obtaining forest clearance by the NTPC Ltd since recently, he added.
Lal Thanhawla further said that, the expected power generation capacity of the project was reduced from 1800 million units to 1100 million units after 26 years of study on catchment area and environmental flow conducted by NTPC Ltd.
