Chief Justice of India Inaugurates New Gauhati High Court Aizawl Bench Building in Aizawl

Aizawl, September 2, 2023:  Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud inaugurated the impressive new building of the Gauhati High Court Aizawl bench at the Mizoram New Capital Complex (MINECO) in Aizawl on September 2. The ceremony was attended by Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Law and Justice, Justice Sandeep Mehta, Chief Judge of the Gauhati High Court, and Zoramthanga, Chief Minister of Mizoram.

In his inaugural speech, Chief Justice Chandrachud expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders for their contributions in completing the new building. He emphasized the critical role that courts play in a robust judiciary system and underscored the importance of developing court premises and technological infrastructure. Chandrachud also highlighted the significance of upholding the rule of law and peaceful resolution of legal matters, which are essential for the nation's well-being.

Justice Sandeep Mehta, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, welcomed the attendees with an address. The new building, with a sanctioned value of Rs 4624.12 lakh, was constructed using Non-Lapseable Central Pool Resources (NLCPR). The architectural and structural design was completed by PWD, Mizoram, and the construction was undertaken by North East Consultancy Services. The building boasts a total floor space of 13773.11 sqm and includes the main building, an advocate's building, and a building for visiting judges.

This remarkable addition to the legal infrastructure in Mizoram signifies the commitment to the rule of law and the pursuit of justice within the state.
