Intensified IEC Campaign ‘India Fight Against HIV/AIDS & STI’ Observance Day Held in Siaha

Siaha, 13 Sept (Zoram News) :  Mizoram State AIDS Control Society (MSACS), in collaboration with the District AIDS Prevention & Control Committee (DAPCC), organized the Intensified IEC Campaign ‘India Fight Against HIV/AIDS & STI’ Observance & Prize Distribution Programme at the Government Saiha College Seminar Hall, Siaha. The event was graced by District Commissioner Pu VL Hruaizela Khiangte as the chief guest.

In his speech, Pu VL Hruaizela Khiangte welcomed the gathering and expressed his appreciation for the meaningful observance aimed at raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). He highlighted the importance of such events in spreading awareness and shared his hope that the campaign would inspire action in combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

 

He emphasized the significance of the Intensified IEC Campaign, praising the dedicated efforts of those involved in organizing various events under the campaign. He expressed concern over the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the Siaha District, and the alarming infant mortality rate (IMR) in the district, noting that over 1,000 newborn deaths have been recorded. The Commissioner stressed the importance of educating the younger generation, especially children and adolescents, about HIV/AIDS and STIs to promote early prevention.

 

Pu VL Hruaizela Khiangte further urged the public to be vigilant and to prioritize prevention over cure. He called for a shift in mentality and the adoption of healthier lifestyles to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS, emphasizing the importance of greater awareness and personal responsibility. He also appealed to the people of Siaha to work together towards a healthier and cleaner city.

 

Sr. Education Officer (Middle School) Pu Beichhiachhie also addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of the program and encouraging attendees to continue striving for success in their daily lives while spreading awareness. He urged them to use their knowledge to benefit others and to maintain good practices in their personal lives.

 

Pi Zingia Hlychho, ICTC Counsellor, conducted an informative session on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), focusing on prevention and the importance of seeking timely treatment. She emphasized the need for greater awareness and prevention efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

 

The program also featured remarks from the Principal of Govt. Saiha College and the District Education Officer of Siaha, followed by a vote of thanks from Dr. C Lalrosanga, DMS, District Hospital, Siaha, who concluded the event.

 

As part of the Intensified IEC Campaign, various competitions were held in schools and colleges across the district starting from September 10, with prizes distributed during the event.
