Mizo Day 2024 Celebrated in Maryland with Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma as Chief Guest

Aizawl, 4 Sept (Zoram News):  On September 2, 2024, the Mizo Society of America hosted a grand celebration of Mizo Day in Rockville, Maryland, USA, attended by Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, his wife Pi Liansailovi, and daughter Zodinthari.

The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude for being able to attend in person, having been invited to the event in 2020 but unable to participate due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his address, Pu Lalduhoma highlighted the importance of unity among the Zo people and discussed the historical and cultural significance of the term "Zo." He also acknowledged the challenges of his brief visit due to pressing duties back home, while emphasizing the need for continued dialogue and connection among the Mizo diaspora.

The Chief Minister further spoke on the geographical, cultural, and linguistic heritage of the Zo people, advocating for a unified identity that reflects their shared history and values.

He also referenced historical documents that trace the origin and unity of the Zo people, explaining how different nomenclatures like "Lushai," "Kuki," and "Chin" were imposed by outsiders and are not the original names of the Zo people. The Chief Minister urged for reflection on the collective identity and the possible future reunification of Zo people across India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, particularly highlighting the support from the Indian government and the Mizo diaspora in the United States for their efforts in aiding displaced persons from Myanmar and Bangladesh currently taking refuge in Mizoram.

This celebration marked an important moment of cultural pride and solidarity among the Mizo community in America, fostering connections that transcend borders.
