Lok Adalat is an alternative dispute resolution mechanism in India aimed at providing quick and cost-effective justice. It translates to "People's Court" in Hindi and is a forum where disputes are settled amicably without going through lengthy and expensive court procedures.

Lok Adalats play a vital role in reducing the burden on the Indian judiciary by settling cases out of court. This mechanism promotes access to justice for people who might otherwise struggle with legal costs or delays. It encourages amicable settlements and fosters goodwill between disputing parties.
