Serchhip, 7 Oct (Zoram News): The Mizoram Journalists Association (MJA) General Headquarters organized a highly informative seminar on cyber crime today at the Serchhip Press Club. The event was officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, who also serves as the MLA for Serchhip constituency. This seminar is the first in a series planned to be held across eight district headquarters in Mizoram, aimed at raising awareness about the growing threat of cyber crime.

Chief Minister Calls for Public Vigilance Against Cyber Crime

In his inaugural address, Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma highlighted the alarming rise in cyber crime cases across India. He emphasized the importance of increasing public awareness in all internet-based activities, urging citizens to be vigilant and adopt preventive measures to protect themselves from online threats.

"Prevention is better than cure, and in the digital age, we must prioritize safety in all our online transactions and communications," the Chief Minister remarked.

He also pointed out the proactive steps taken by the Mizoram government, including the establishment of a Cyber Crime Police Station on May 20, 2022. Since its formation, the station has handled a growing number of cases, with 158 cyber crime cases registered in 2022, 72 cases in 2023, and 33 cases reported so far in 2024. The Chief Minister urged the public to report any suspicious calls, messages, or online activities to the nearest police station without delay.

Key Discussions and Presentations at the Seminar

The seminar was chaired by Pu C. Lalrambuatsaiha, President of the Mizoram Journalists Association. It featured a detailed presentation by Pu Zonunsanga, Additional SP, CID Crime, who provided valuable insights and practical tips for journalists on recognizing and preventing cyber crime. The event emphasized the critical role of media in disseminating information about cyber threats and educating the public.

A Statewide Initiative to Combat Cyber Crime

This seminar marks the beginning of a broader initiative by the MJA to combat cyber crime through increased awareness. Similar seminars are set to be organized across Mizoram's eight district headquarters, with the goal of empowering both the media and the public to safeguard themselves against digital threats.
