National Symposium Envisions Aizawl’s Future: A Blueprint for a Livable and Safe City by 2044

Aizawl, 7 Oct (Zorm News):  A pivotal event shaping the future of Aizawl took place today at Government Aizawl College, Mualpui. The National Symposium on "Vision Aizawl City After 20 Years" brought together key stakeholders and thought leaders to discuss how to transform Aizawl into a livable and safe city by 2044. Organized and funded by Aizawl Smart City Ltd., the symposium focused on addressing the city's growth potential and the pressing challenges it faces in the coming decades.

Minister Highlights Aizawl's Untapped Potential

The Honorable Minister of Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation, Pu K. Sapdanga, inaugurated the event at 10:30 a.m., delivering a keynote address that underscored Aizawl's youthful potential. He emphasized that while the city has vast opportunities for growth, it requires careful planning and moral reformation among its citizens to truly become a livable and safe space.

“Aizawl’s future rests on the shoulders of today’s youth. Their mindset and way of life will determine the city's transformation over the next 20 years,” Pu Sapdanga remarked.

He urged students to adopt a forward-thinking approach for the benefit of future generations. Encouraging the youth to become job creators rather than seekers, the minister stressed the importance of hard work, honesty, and a balanced moral compass. He also thanked the organizers and extended his best wishes for the success of the symposium.

Key Discussions: Building a Future-Ready Aizawl

The day’s program was structured into three sessions, each focusing on different aspects of Aizawl's future development:

Inaugural Session

Presided over by Dr. Lalmalsawma Khiangte, HoD of the Political Science Department, and Pu Lalbiakzuala, Principal of Government Aizawl College, the inaugural session began with a welcome speech. Pu CC. Lalchhuangkima, CEO of Aizawl Smart City Ltd., delivered the keynote address, focusing on the challenges the city may face in 2044 and the steps needed to overcome them.

Technical Session I: Urban Mobility and Infrastructure

The first technical session brought insights from city planners and experts:

  • Pu HVL Zarzosanga, Project Coordinator, ASUTP, shared a detailed Vision for Urban Mobility, highlighting sustainable transportation options.
  • Pu Andrew Lalhruaia, JD, UD & PA, discussed the Vision for Infrastructure in Aizawl, emphasizing the need for resilient infrastructure to support future growth.
  • Pu Lalremruata Kullai, JMC, presented a forward-looking perspective on Urban Local Governance, focusing on the role of AMC in Aizawl’s future.

Technical Session II: A Livable City Vision

In this session, Prof. Benjamin L. Saitluanga, MZU, outlined a comprehensive plan for making Aizawl a livable city by addressing environmental, social, and economic factors.

Upcoming Online Session on Governance

An additional online session at 7:00 p.m. will be presided over by Dr. C. Lalengkima, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science. Pu Ramengmawia Bawitlung, a PhD candidate at IIT Bombay, will be the main speaker, discussing governance models for urban development.

The symposium’s discussions offered a roadmap for the future of Aizawl, urging both government officials and citizens to take proactive steps toward creating a city that is not only safe and sustainable but also inclusive for future generations. The event concluded with a call for greater civic engagement, with a focus on youth-driven change.
